Corner's Past

Pastor's Corner

2015? It can't be! Wasn't it just yesterday that we were entering a brand new year, 2014! The Rolling Stones sang "Time is on my side." I wonder . . . It seems that I'm always playing catchup with time! That well known aphorism, time waits for no one, is an apt one as we embark upon the uncharted waters of this new year.

What will this new year bring? I wish I knew. There will be joy and there will be sadness, heartache and happiness, and lots of mundane, humdrum and ordinary. Some we can control, and some we can't (just ask me about the latter!). Yet, in all things, whatever may happen, we can rest in the assurance of God's presence through the presence of the Holy Spirit.

Qoheleth, the "Preacher," wrote, "For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:" (Ecclesiastes 3:1-8). Reading this text reminds me of the ebb and flow of life, but more important, God's constancy. In the Sermon on the Mount Jesus talks about the needless worry often we undertake (see Matthew 6:25-34). More often than not, there is little we can do. So, as Jesus asks, why worry?

2015 is here. It's a blank slate, an unwritten upon page. What we do with this is up to us. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, God will guide us. Thanks be to God from whom all blessings - and all of life - flows! See you on the journey as we travel this unknown road together.

Grace and peace,
Mike
