He was the one of whom Isaiah the prophet spoke when he said: The voice of one shouting in the wilderness, “Prepare the way for the Lord; make his paths straight.” Matthew 3:3
“Chrismon” is a term meaning “The Name of Christ”. The tradition of displaying Chrismons on a tree within a church during the Christmas season was originated in Danville, Virginia in 1957 and has spread to Christian churches throughout the world. Our own Hunt UMC is one of the earlier entries into the captivating world of Chrismons and has carried on the tradition for almost half a century. Each Chrismon was carefully handcrafted by a group of ladies of the church in the 1960’s and each has a specific meaning reflecting a part of the Christian Faith as inspired by a passage in the Bible. You are cordially invited to enjoy with us a beautiful scene guaranteed to get you into the spirit of Christmas with its real meaning.
Under Connie Townsend's direction, the chorus will perform a collection of favorite Christmas carols that tell of the advent and birth of Jesus. The chorus is made up of the Hunt UMC sanctuary choir, the Hunt UMC Praise Team and community members. Narrators will provide the history, nationality, inspiration, and other background information on each song. Some of the stories behind the songs are incredible, and there will be surprises!
Immediately following the Celebration of Carols, we will have our Bill Petty Tuesday Morning Men’s Bible Study 22nd Annual Spaghetti Lunch/Baked Goods Auction.
We hope you will join us this season at Hunt United Methodist Church as we gather to celebrate Advent and Christmas in December. As we give thanks around table with family in late November, we are grateful for the grace of God in our lives. And we want to prepare for the celebration of God with Us (Emmanuel) during Advent.
That is a four week season in the Christian tradition in which we re-tell the story of the long expected Messiah. We claim Jesus’ birth as the event in God’s history which signals the coming of the Lord. The time now is for active waiting... not to be complacent or idle, but to get ready for the presence of the divine among us in Jesus.
